Review and reflect upon the images of oppression shown below. Then, answer the following question: "How does societal oppression affect the individual?" (For example, does he adapt or rebel? Should he abandon his beliefs, modify them, or hold firm to them?)
I believe that if you are forced to do something that you don't like then you should rebel and fight the man
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kayla because for any society to improve, people must fight for what they believe in and stay true to their beliefs.
DeleteSocietal oppression affects the individual negatively. When faced with this, one should be true to themselves and stand up for what they believe in. By not doing so, you are admitting defeat to someone who is wrong. By not fighting for that which is right, things will never become better for those who are oppressed. And now I will go full nerd and use an anime quote to support my statement: "Someone who can't sacrifice everything can't ever change anything" -Armin Arlert (Shingeki no Kyojin). To fit this context, this can mean that one must give up one's freedom or even life in order to make change for the better, and one who is afraid to do this can never make a difference in the world.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Melanie. We should do what makes us happy and not worry about what society thinks because we are then allowing it to control us.
DeleteI agree with Melanie as well. You should stand up for what you believe is right and what makes you happier. If you want to be happier though, you have to sacrifice everything to achieve it, such as life or freedom.
DeleteI agree with melanie because u should stay true to what you believe in and not give in
DeleteSocial oppression can be very difficult to deal with because it tries to take away a person's individuality. We conform to be accepted by others because we all want to feel loved. It can make us very unhappy if we adapt because we are acting in a way that is not ourselves to gain the acceptance of others. Some might choose to rebel and not change their character to keep themselves happy. Beliefs might be abandoned because society can trick us into believing other things.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it can tear people down but they need to pick themselves backup
DeleteI agree, I think society has a negitive effect on people usually and it can tear a person down.
DeleteI believe societal oppression can affect an individual a lot. It takes away a persons individuality and makes them feel belittled and unimportant. People can't be themselves when they are oppressed because others are controlling them. If I was in this type of situation, I wouldn't just adapt to it, I would stand up for what I believe was right. I would stick to my beliefs and hold firm to them to prove society wrong. If you choose to adapt and change your beliefs just for society, nothing will get changed and you wont be happy because you wouldn't be yourself anymore, you would just become what society wants.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Amanda. I think that if people are oppressed and are being controlled by others than they should stand for their beliefs and rebel if need be. You shouldn't just give into it and give up.
DeleteI think that societal oppression is not a good thing for people to have to live through. It is very stressful and can change that person's whole life. People should never have to be forced to do something because of their religion race or beliefs. When people do this it should be viewed as wrong and inhumane. For the people that are being discriminated, I think that they should stick to what they believe no matter what others tell them or make them do.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Trevor. These people will have been change from experience and affect their life. And standing up for what you believe of is important. This is your life try to live it how you wish to live it.
DeleteI feel that societal oppression is wrong for the people that receive this treatment. This treatment will have a huge affect on their live and change their out on it. To be forced to work cause a hatred towards the people that are forcing them to work. This will cause them to have that hatred towards people that may have done nothing to them. When it comes to the choice to adapt or rebel you must rebel. Do not allow these people to control your life. Stand up for your beliefs if you dont they will see that you have given up and they will take advantage of it.
ReplyDeleteI agree all forms of oppression lead to hatred. Hatred cause People to rise up and fight.
DeleteSocietal oppression causes people to conform or rebel. It happens all over the world, people either except and live with it or, the rise up. It may only take one person but, it takes a group to make the change.
ReplyDeleteI agree that societal oppression causes rebellion. I also agree that it does take at least one person to make a change. One example is MLK. jr. He rose up to fight segregation/oppression of his people and he made a change.
Deletei agree, people can only take so much abuse before they loose their cool and rebel.
DeleteI agree, one voice is powerful but many are even stronger!
DeleteOppression affects each individual differently. While some individuals lose all of their hope and courage others become paranoid and furious. For the individuals that want something to change, that individual should always stick to their beliefs and not waiver just like Gandhi did against Great Britain.
ReplyDeleteif a person is forced to do something, then there is no reason for them not to rebel. societal oppression can drive anyone to rebel against force that is forcing them to do things they don't want to do.
ReplyDeletei agree, when someone is being oppressed they should rebel. If they're living a life of being kept from what they really want in life, then why would you want to live in that world where that continues? you should want to break free otherwise it's not a world worth living in.
DeleteI believe if someone is being oppressed then they should stick to their beliefs. If they're being forced to do conform to things that they don't wish to conform to then they should rebel against their oppressor. Only then will that person be able to be happy, and live their life the way they wish.
ReplyDeleteIf society tells us to be a certain way and we don't want to follow that path we should not be put out among society. you should live how you want with out people judging you
ReplyDeleteSocial oppression can really get to peoples minds. It tells people how to live their life. I believe people should be able to live the way they way they want without society getting down on them.
ReplyDeleteI agree that everyone should live how they want too! It is unfair being placed into society without earning your spot.
DeleteI believe that people should do what makes them happy! As long as it's within proper legal limits, and it's not harming them. Society might say one thing and just expect you to except it and change who you are, but I think you shouldl do what you want.
ReplyDeleteI agree that people shouldn't conform to societies beliefs, and that they should fight for what they believe in no matter what other people think.
DeleteI believe that when people are oppressed they should stick up for themselves. Even though society may say it is okay to make children work, you should fight for yourself and what you believe in. You shouldn't have to form to societies beliefs.
ReplyDeleteI believe that societal oppression is unfair. Everyone should be allowed to have their own beliefs and earn their spot in society without being born into it. People should do what makes them happy and not feel pressure from society.
